Protein Skimmer

Foam fractionators for protein extraction

ACQUA&CO’s Protein Skimmers are devices that concentrate and remove dissolved materials in the water through special biological filters. Also called ‘skimmers’, they separate dissolved material from the water through a foam fractionator and consist of a contacting column for concentrating air bubbles, an aeration device, a water inlet and outlet, and a discharge area for waste foam.

The use of Protein Skimmers allows the removal of proteins and high molecular weight compounds, thus reducing the risk of organic waste build-up in the water, removing suspended solids and regulating the level of carbon dioxide in the water. It also promotes an increase in water clarity and oxygen level, as well as pH stabilisation.

EcoMix

Ecomix is a compact polypropylene protein skimmer exploiting a Venturi system to inject air and gases to assist the skimming process.

Ecomix can treat a flow rate of 1 to 3 mc/h and is particularly suitable for small closed circuits.

It is used for the depuration and storage of aquatic products such as fish, molluscs and crustaceans.

It can operate as a contactor and dissolver of oxygen and/or ozone.

Ecomix is available with several options including condensation column, evacuation chimney and can be fed with ozone.

ECOskim

Ecoskim is a compact polypropylene protein skimmer exploiting a Venturi system to inject air and gases to assist the skimming process.

Ecoskim can handle a flow rate of 3 to 5mc/h and is particularly suitable for small closed circuits.

It is used for the depuration, live maintenance and storage of aquatic products such as molluscs, crustaceans and fish.

It can operate as a contactor and dissolver of oxygen and/or ozone.

Ecoskim is available with multiple options, such as condensation column, evacuation chimney and ozone supply.

Micros

Micros is a compact polypropylene protein skimmer exploiting a Venturi system to inject air and gases to assist the pressurised skimming process.

It can treat a flow rate of 3 to 6 mc/h.

Micros is used for the depuration, live holding and storage of aquatic products such as molluscs, crustaceans and fish.

Micros is available with multiple options such as condensation column and evacuation chimney, and is particularly suitable for dissolving technical gases (pure oxygen, ozone) with high efficiency.

Protos

Protos is a high-efficiency protein skimmer that operates with an AGIF (aspirated gas injected flotation) removal process, i.e. air or gas is in and injected as micro bubbles, directly into the liquid to be treated and dissolved by turbulence (i.e. induced aspirated air/gas flotation).

This protein skimmer causes the bubbles produced, electrically activated, to attract solid particles (bacteria, microalgae, small suspended solids, organic and inorganic matter, fats, oils and colloidal substances) and float them to the surface to be subsequently removed.

The foams generated are liquefied and then evacuated and removed from the water circuit.

With this skimmer it is also possible to introduce gases or liquids by saturation or induction, such as oxygen, ozone, carbon dioxide, flocculants and surfactants.

Protos is also an ideal solution for closed circuit systems.

Skimmy

The Skimmy is a high-performance skimmer and is used to remove bacteria and organic matter from water; it has a flow rate of 50 mc/h and is capable of filtering sub-micron particles.

The foam produced by the Skimmy is formed to the desired density (patented system), and is then evacuated by pressure, gravity or mechanically.

The water that comes out filtered and oxygenated by the Skimmy generates a circulation effect in the basin where it is installed

This protein skimmer can be installed directly inside the basin to be treated or in a dedicated tank.

Skimmy works purely mechanically, generating foam and its subsequent removal enables the elimination of a large quantity of micro particles, suspended solids, bacteria and even some viruses, acting in fact as the technological heart of the treatment and filtration plant.

Thanks to the cupel adjustment, the liquid foam concentration can vary, controlling the liquid discharge.

In the PLUS version, the Skimmy’s cupel level adjustment is automatic; this automatism will be programmed by the user to optimise the system’s water consumption by controlling the flow rate and density of foam to be evacuated.

The Skimmy can be supplied on floats or in fixed installation.

Skim

The Skim is an ultra-high performance protein skimmer with a capacity of 100 mc/h of water.

The foam produced by the Skim is formed to the desired density (patented system), liquefies mechanically without any water jets and consequent waste, and is then evacuated by pressure, gravity or mechanically.

The Skim can be installed directly into an existing treatment basin or into a dedicated tank and can be supplied on floats or in fixed installation.

In addition to its skimming function, the Skim allows controlled oxygenation (hourly programmed) and an artificial circulation of the basin water that causes the suspension of sediment for effective evacuation.

Skim works in a purely mechanical way, the generation and removal of the foam enables the elimination of a large quantity of micro particles, suspended solids, bacteria and even some viruses, acting in fact as the technological heart of the treatment plant.

By means of the cupel adjustment, the liquid foam concentration can vary, controlling the liquid discharge from 2 l/h up to 4 m³/h.

In the SKIM PLUS version, the level control of the Skim cupel is automatic and is programmed by the user to optimise the system’s water consumption by controlling the flow rate and density of foam to be evacuated. 

All of this is possible through a linear actuator controlled by a PLC integrated in the control cabinet.

The special SKIM PLUS PACK makes it possible to implement the traditional Skim by turning it into a Skim Plus.

SkimOne

The Skim One is INNOVAQUA’s high-efficiency protein skimmer with the highest capacity, treating up to 500 mc/h of water.

This skimmer is used to remove bacteria and organic matter from water and is capable of filtering sub-micron particles.

In addition to its skimming function, the Skim One allows controlled oxygenation (hourly programmed) and artificial circulation of the basin water.

This skimmer is thanks to a programmable foam evacuation flow control.

The Skim One can be installed directly inside the basin to be treated or in a peripheral buffer tank.
